The Poverty of Plenty (Week 1)

Sunday, October 25, 2026 · Pastor Joseph Floarea · Revelation 3:17-18; Matthew 6:19-24; Mark 12:41-44; Luke 12:15; Ecclesiastes 5:10; Mark 10:17-22; 2 Corinthians 8:1-5

Having plenty does not always mean having peace. This message explores how a heart can remain spiritually impoverished even when life is materially comfortable, especially when possessions, security, or the pursuit of more begin to take God’s place. Through Jesus’ teaching about treasure, the rich young ruler, the widow’s offering, and the Macedonian churches, it examines contentment, generosity, and surrender. The question is not simply how much we give, but what has authority over our hearts. Generosity can reveal what we value and help shape what we love, but giving alone does not necessarily mean we have surrendered control. The invitation is to bring more than a financial commitment: it is to give God the heart, priorities, and confidence we may have attached to other things. The message points toward a deeper freedom—not found in acquiring more, but in rediscovering that Jesus is enough.
